Techno-Economic Optimization of the NbTi DTT Feeders

The superconducting (SC) coils of the Divertor Tokamak Test (DTT) facility will be connected to current leads by a set SC feeders, currently designed as cable-in-conduit conductors wound using commercial NbTi strands cooled Supercritical Helium at 4.5 K. feeders are immersed in magnetic field generated coil and plasma outside magnet system, so that maximum on most loaded feeder can reach 4 T full rated (including self-field effect). Here performance is assessed during pulse, based DTT standard single-null operating scenario, for Central Solenoid Toroidal Poloidal Field coils, computing minimum temperature margin sharing throughout scenario. Several alternative cabling configurations analyzed, withstand nominal peak with different number stabilizer strands. A figure merit built parametrically variation function material, manufacturing operational costs layouts. Based such techno-economical characterization, optimal (cheapest) design cables identified.
